A personal goal of hers is to have the opportunity to pay it forward to the next generation as she wears the Maple Leaf with pride around the world.

The 2015-2016 season was the breakthrough Heather had been training so hard for. She started the season off with some huge personal bests at the Fall World Cup Team Selection in Calgary and only a month later, stepped on her first World Cup podium in Inzell, Germany.

Originally following her two older brothers in the sport of speed skating, the Winnipeg-born athlete is now taking her own strides and has established herself as one of the fastest sprinters in the world. Heather skated the second fastest time ever recorded by a Canadian last winter, 0.12sec behind a certain Catriona Le May-Doan.

Growing up looking up to Winnipegers like Susan Auch, Cindy Klassen, and Clara Hughes, Heather knows the importance a role model can have in the early stages of an athlete's career. A personal goal of hers is to have the opportunity to pay it forward to the next generation as she wears the Maple Leaf with pride around the world.

As she continues to become a leader on the Canadian women long track speed skating team, Heather's got her eyes set on the Pyeongchang Olympic Games in 2018.
